HUNSTON
The Selsey Tramway exerted an irresistable appeal to me as a teenager back in the early 70s. In about 1977 I took the train to Chichester then walked down to Hunston, not really expecting to find much.
But back then there was a nice stretch of remains, starting at the canal bridge which led to a footpath along the route of the line and then, amazingly, after the footpath met the main road to Selsey and in a field on the opposite side of the road stood a platform! One day my pics of that day will turn up no doubt - I took a whole roll of film there.
Hunston was one of the busier intermediate stations and I suspect a rebuilt station today would do a roaring trade as people ditched their cars to take the easy route into Chichester, but for now all is quiet. But if you scramble to the north bank of the canal at Hunston there is a tiny bit of replica track in place (see the second picture above). The Selsey Tramway story is far from finished!
